Equipped with a powerful Motorola MC68340 CPU, an automatic document feeder and two programmable output hoppers, the new unit is capable of achieving a throughput of 2500 documents per hour.
This level of performance makes the ScanMark 2500 much faster than entering data via the keyboard, and, since information is scanned from forms directly into the user's computer, it is much more accurate.
The reader's automatic document feeder input has a 250-sheet capacity and features a self-adjusting double-sheet detection facility. For document output, two programmable hoppers are provided - one with a 250-sheet capacity and one with a 100-sheet capacity - to enable forms to be sorted under software control.
Utilising reflective-read technology, the standard ScanMark 2500 unit reads one side of a form per pass, although dual read-heads are available as an option for processing both sides of a form simultaneously.
Other options include bar-code reading facilities and a built-in ink-jet printer, which can be used for printing results or serial numbers on a form as it passes through the reader.
In addition, the ScanBook utility software - which is available in Windows, DOS and Macintosh versions - makes it easy to create new form descriptions and to translate scanned data into ASCII text files ready for exporting to application software.
Capable of handling form sizes from 165 x 57mm to 356 x 215mm, the ScanMark 2500 itself has overall dimensions of 343mm high x 318mm deep x 787mm wide, and it weighs just 15.4kg.
